Towards the Implementation of Total Quality Management Tools in the Mobile Network Operations Centre: A System Thinking Approach

Abstract

The telecommunication industry (telecom) is one of the most dynamic, and fast-paced industry that employs cutting edge technologies to transmit. This study evaluates some important total quality management (TQM) tools that can be employed in the telecom to promote effective operations in network surveillance and fault management processes for a 5G transmission network. A systematic literature review was conducted using articles sourced from the EBSCOHost database. The outcome of the review shows that data collection tools play important roles in the quality management of the network operation centres (NOC). Since the industry deals with information transmission, the role of data acquisition and management cannot be overemphasized. This implies that, without good data, effective service and quality cannot be achieved. Based on the outcome of the review, this study developed a framework that can assist the telecom industry achieve TQM. This study adds to the existing knowledge on TQM and provide insights into practicable steps that the telecom industries can undertake to effectively implement the TQM tools.
