Design of Semi-Automated Stairs Climber

Abstract

Transporting items, lifting objects, loads such as books, food grains etc. to store above the ground level, or even patients to move upper level from ground is a difficult task, especially where there are no lifting facilities (elevator, conveyer, etc.) available, as most buildings do not have elevator or escalators. Human labour is considered the sole option in this situation. The aim of this project is to design a stair trolley climber to convey load without effort from an operator with readily available material of low cost. The computer aided design (CAD) was carried out in the SolidWorks environment version 2022. Careful simulation analysis of the performance of the machine with varying loads suggest the need for a retractable feature so as to function in descending the stairs. It was seen that the shaft driving power capacity is 245 W which is lower than the power transmission capacity of the designed hydraulics.
