Development of a computer numerical control laser cutting and engraving machine

Abstract

Abstract: The quest for improved product quality, operational efficiency as well as time effectiveness during manufacturing operations triggered the possibility of exploring the potentials of the Computer Numerical Control (CNC) and laser technologies. This study provides the design analysis of a of CNC laser cutting and engraving machine. The design encompasses the axes configuration, components analysis and dimensioning, as well as the torque and power requirements of the CNC-laser cutting and engraving machine. The machine comprises of 10 W laser power with a wavelength of 450 nm focusing for the engraving with a cutting TTL module of 10,00 MW. The laser module is controlled and powered directly via the controller board. This study presents design data that can aid the development of laser cutting and engraving machines. The findings of this study assist manufacturing industries to harness the potentials of the CNC and laser technologies for product development in a time and cost-effective way.
